Sweet Potato is a bright orange root vegetable, treated similarly to butternut squash, parsnips, swede and turnips. Sweet potato is much lower in starch than regular potato and actually does count towards your ‘5-a-day’. One of the great things about sweet potato is that it is available year-round in Australia!

Selecting tips

  • Look for small or medium sweet potatoes – they will be sweet and creamy . Sometimes, the larger sweet potatoes will be more starchy.
  • Look for smooth, deeply-coloured skin.
