A Better Choice For Freshness

Now that the weather is starting to warm up, it’s time to start preparing for the heat that is to come! When it comes to getting your little ones to stay hydrated while they’re running around in the heat, it can be limited to cordial or other sweet drinks. Very rarely is it good stuff like water or fruit (unless you have a miracle child who actually prefers the taste of water to lemonade!). To make this challenge easier, we’ve put our creativity hats on and put together a couple of different ways to get your kids hydrated, using seasonal fruit, and everybody’s favourite warm weather snack – icy poles!

What fruits should you include?

We recommend using fruits like watermelon, oranges and even strawberries as the base for your icy poles. When put in a blender, you create the liquid you’ll use to pour into your ice block moulds.

As for the extra fruity goodness, include whatever you can get! Mangoes, blueberries, kiwi fruit slices and even peaches are super yummy when added in small portions to the moulds. There’s no need to blend these, but if you’d rather not have the chunks of fruit, feel free to add them to your base!

Our tips!
1. We know it’s tempting to add a soft drink like lemonade, but we think using the right fruits will make your icy poles sweet enough! It’ll also make each one guilt free, and keep your kids hydrated, and full, for longer!

2. Try and mix them up! If you have one watermelon one, make the next one more orange based. It’ll keep your kids from getting bored of them, and keep them coming back for more.

3. Try adding yoghurt or an alternative to make your icy poles creamier.

Stay cool, everyone!
